discover the joy of circular business development

work together in a series of workshops to discover circular value propositions

A typical participant group for a workshop programme with the Circular Solution Space® includes experts from different business disciplines within your organisation. Many of our workshops include staff working in product design and engineering, marketing, sales, procurement, operations, legal, finance as well as management. The underlying idea is to a create a multidisciplinary team who will work together throughout the chosen workshop programme.

Workshop 1.  Introduction to Circular Economy

In this workshop, participants work together to establish a shared understanding of the concept of ‘circular’ within the team. This gives them a common terminology for design and process interventions and circular business model archetypes.

During this workshop, we first present and explain the basic principles of the circular economy. We cover the how, what and why and explain why strategic alignment with this circular mindset is crucial for the future and continuity of companies beyond 2030. We use proven business cases to define and discuss possible design interventions and business model archetypes relevant to your business.

In this workshop, participants create a topline ‘Business & Production Map’ based on their knowledge and expertise. This visual overview clarifies the different elements of the product life cycle by using basic elements, each with their own icons, e.g. raw materials, semi-finished products, finished products, production processes, losses, transport and distribution, trade transactions, and use.

The overview reveals where value destruction occurs and whether or not it can be prevented by product and/or process improvements. The workshop results in a collective understanding of the overall business processes, essential for a truly collaborative approach

Workshop 3.

Circular

Solution Space®

In the Circular Solution Space workshop, we introduce a tangible, three-dimensional model, scientifically developed to systematically analyse existing products and generate new ideas in multidisciplinary groups.

Through the Circular Solution Space, we analyse the existing ‘product-service-business model’, looking for alternative paths to explore new company-specific circular solutions. The Circular Solution Space makes different paths explicit and shows how the distance between current and desired positions can be bridged. In this way, participants gain insights into how the (next) steps in circular business development can be approached.

In this follow-up workshop, the Business & Production Map is further substantiated and objectified using Circularity Benchmarking. This calculation model makes circularity objectively measurable either at company level or product level, depending on the initial aims. The benchmark results provide essential input for focusing ideation on the most potentially valuable business or product components.

Circularity Benchmarking combines the quantification of eco-impact (Life Cycle Assessment) with a quantitative analysis of added and destroyed economic value. Using this model, the team can more easily compare different circular development scenarios and monitor possible pilot projects. The programme can be deployed in a more exploratory or analytical form.

Supplementary Circularity Benchmarking®

two routes

analytical or explorative

Depending on the initial intake, we can set up a programme of workshops specific to your company or product. In an exploratory form,

the programme aims at broadly exploring and identifying (new) opportunities for circular business development. In a more analytical format, the programme aims are to effectively address and transform existing production or business operations.

The Explorative Route in this route, we work together and deploy the Circular Solution Space as an analysis, discussion and creative tool without any prior quantitative process or numerical analysis. In this variant, participants work without a shared quantitative and objective context. To monitor the realism and applicability of the workshop outcomes, participants have to be well versed in their respective fields and very much in touch with the market and context of their business.

The Analytical Route When choosing this route, a quantitative, numerical analysis of the business process is made prior to working with the Circular Solution Space. Using the Business & Production Map, we identify hotspots for circular development which are then numerically assessed with Circularity Benchmarking. When taking this route, the Circular Solution Space is targeted to find alternatives to specific problems identified in the analysis
